Workshop on Valuation of Forest Ecosystem Services announced by FOREST EUROPE
A workshop on Valuation of Forest Ecosystem Services (VFES) has been announced by the FOREST EUROPE Liaison Unit Madrid. The meeting will take place on 24-25 September in Belgrade, Serbia, and will be hosted by the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.
The workshop aims to be a platform where ongoing experiences on VFES can be shared. It will also provide a good opportunity to identify effective priorities and measures to promote the use of valuation approaches, with the view that values of forests ecosystem services are increasingly reflected in relevant national policies and market-based instruments such as payments for ecosystem services.
This activity is part of the FOREST EUROPE Programme of Work, which includes specific actions related to the valuation of forest ecosystem services in the Pan-European region. The importance of this subject was already highlighted in the Oslo Ministerial Decision: European Forests 2020, which sets the goals and priority actions to be taken at national and international levels in order to enhance Sustainable Forest Management.
