“Forests and Gender”, IUCN publication available for download
“Taking a gender perspective in forestry has nothing to do with political correctness and everything to do with development and conservation effectiveness (…)”, states the introduction. “If we ignore gender, there is no doubt that we will fail in our efforts to strengthen forests’ contribution to poverty reduction, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development”.
The publication covers different issues associated with challenges of gender equality in forest management. It also presents case studies from both developed and developing countries, which help to understand the benefits of the inclusion of women’s participation in this field.
It is structured in three parts: “Themes in forests and gender”, “Country case studies” and “Forests and gender in the international and global arenas”.
“Forests and Gender” has been prepared in collaboration with Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO), USA.
